Sadly SB277 was passed in California yesterday, taking away the rights of parents to decide whether to vacccinate their chidlren. I have always loved living here in California because I felt free to practice my beliefs freely. That right has now been taken away.
And, while I can well understand the positions and arguments of those who voted for this bill, I stand with those who argued against it. More than anything it is incredibly sad that the right to be the sole keeper or one’s own child or children.
I put the picture of Mel Gibson above because it was a picture posted when Oregon won against this same purposed legislation last month. I love that picture and I wish it represented our victory as well.
Part of the job that I think ICAMA has is to educate parents on the possible impact that medicines may have on their children in an effort to prevent chronic conditions such as IC from happening. And while one thing alone may not trigger it, being able to make choices that will prevent a chain of events from happening is imperative. To what end do we take those rights away?
Today what is done is done. It is my hope that somehow in the future, there will be further legislation to reverse this ruling, and I will keep that vision of Braveheart in my head because I far prefer that vision than the one California uphelpd yesterday.
