I love dogs. As most of you probably know, I love all animals-I have 15, Y’up 15. BUT….It happens, animals like people are not all friendly. I just had a patient call this am from the emergency room having been severely bitten with deep wounds not knowing what to do.

In a case like this, I just don’t think there is much of a choice-Western medical treatment is probably the best course of action. They prescribed an antibiotic 500 mg twice per day, and I absolutely encouraged her to follow the ER docs advise. Next question was..what about pain killers. My answer was, yes of course! This is the beauty of not abusing these kinds of ingredients on a regular basis-when you REALLY need them, they will typically work very well without too many ill effects.

This particular patient was concerned because the exact antibiotic that they prescribed was the one that directly preceded her onset of IC. But, my response to that was that it was just the straw that broke the camels back so to speak at that time. It was not the cause, but just the very las thing that occured just before all of the dominos fell down.

I thought this would be a good post for today because, although in all these years, I think this is only the third time this has ever come up-it happens. And, whether it is a dog bit or another ER situation, emergency situations do come up obviously and need to be dealt with accordingly.
